Onslow is an established Auckland restaurant, led by chef and owner Josh Emett and Helen Emett, built on a commitment to quality, consistency and genuine hospitality.

Rooted in classic technique yet contemporary in spirit, Onslow represents relaxed fine dining at its most refined.

For more than five years, Onslow has been a place people return to for important moments, trusted for both celebration and everyday dining.

JOSH, HELEN & LEADERSHIP

Josh Emett’s approach to cooking and hospitality underpins everything we do at Onslow, from the menu to the way guests are welcomed into the room, supported by a committed team across the kitchen and dining room, many of whom have been part of the restaurant’s journey for years.

With 30 years in kitchens across London, New York, Los Angeles and Melbourne with Gordon Ramsay, Josh brings an impeccable pedigree to Onslow, and in New Zealand is also known for his time as a MasterChef judge.

Alongside him, Helen Emett brings both rigour and passion to the restaurant, having trained at the French Culinary Institute in New York and realising a long-held dream in co-owning Onslow.


Service at Onslow is thoughtful and assured.

From attentive tableside moments to our signature salmon and martini trolley service, the approach is polished yet relaxed, drawing inspiration from the great dining rooms of the old world.

There is a sense of theatre in the detail, always delivered with warmth, timing and ease, so guests feel cared for rather than served.

Glen File

Leading the kitchen team and working closely alongside Josh is Executive Chef Glen File. Glen grew up in Gisborne and has a resume stacked with some of the best restaurants including head chef at 2 hatted restaurant Baduzzi in Auckland and award-winning Boulcott St Bistro in Wellington. 

Glen is classically trained, having studied at Hamilton Polytechnic in his younger years and brings a wealth of knowledge, passion and leadership to our team at Onslow.

Food

At Onslow, food is both craft and storytelling.

Dishes are executed with precision, rooted in classic technique and elevated through exceptional ingredients and balance. We work closely with trusted New Zealand producers, and at the same time looking for rare, premium ingredients that inspire creativity and bring a distinctly luxurious character to the menu.

The result is refined, generous cooking that is guided by season and provenance.

Wine plays a central role at Onslow, both as part of the meal and the wider experience.

Our list is intentionally curated, offering depth and variety across regions and styles, with the aim of complementing the menu, marking the occasion, and helping you discover something new.
